The pistol grip, which is an integral part of the stock, is positioned on the right side of the weapon. This allows the weapon to recoil independently of the stock. The Neopup layout results in a compact weapon which can be further reduced in length by making use of the recoil system to telescope the weapon in on itself and latching it in place. This results in a stowed length of only 785mm. It can be carried in this configuration in a safe, loaded condition, but cannot be fired. It can be deployed instantly by simply pressing the release latch on the underside of the stock.
The 20mm PAW can be fired off the left shoulder in an absolutely new and unique way. If the PAW is held in the normal manner for right-handed firing, the hands remain as is, and the butt of the weapon is simply placed on the left shoulder. This allows one to obtain a proper cheek weld and sight picture, in a fraction of a second, with no hand swapping being necessary. Although the Neopup weapon is optimized for right handed use, the importance of being able to fire left handed is to enable firing from under cover.
